GOTS Certified fabrics

Organic Cotton

Probably the most well-known of the eco fabrics, organic cotton is much better for the planet than generic cotton. To be certified as organic, the soil must be farmed without synthetic and chemical fertilizers for three years. This even includes the organic cotton seed, which must be free of GMO. Organic cotton is grown under a thin layer of natural protectants that retain much more water than the synthetic protectants, so less water is needed to STOW organic cotton. Not only is it better for the soil and the farmers but also us as consumers and the entire wildlife eco-system.

jersey fabric

Characterized by its considerable stretchiness and close knit, jersey is a popular fabric for underwear, T-shirts, and other types of garments that you wear close to your skin. Since it is lightweight, jersey is not remarkably durable or insulative, but it is ideal as a base layer worn beneath thicker and more durable clothing.

Corduroy Fabric

Corduroy is a durable, ridged fabric that textile producers can make with a variety of different materials. This fabric is most notable for its unique ridged pattern, which corduroy producers can weave in a variety of widths.

While it is usually made with cotton, corduroy can also be woven with blends of polyester and cotton or even full polyester.

The general public still views corduroy as a versatile, durable fabric that’s ideal for pants, jackets, and children’s clothes.

Corduroy fabric may be eligible for various certifications depending on the fibers it contains. Recycled synthetic textiles may be eligible for Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certification, and GOTS is also the world’s premier certifier of organic cotton.

Jersey is highly absorbent, and it is very breathable despite its fully opaque, close-knit structure. This structure provides jersey with an attractive drape, and the intensity of this draping effect varies depending on the material used.

Chanel’s use of jersey in high fashion may have been the factor that originally made this fabric popular, but jersey is no longer a common sight on the catwalk. Instead, this fabric has become ubiquitous as a default material for run-of-the-mill, everyday garments.

Cotton Velour Fabric

Velour is more durable than velvet while retaining many of the desirable properties of this luxurious fabric, which has led to its extensive use as a stage curtain material.

the organic cotton velour fabric is really soft and cuddly!

This is a great choice for organic, hypoallergenic, breathable and absorbent fabric!

Its absorptive ability, its plushness and softness make it a popular fabric on the baby clothing market.

Babies especially love the feel of this organic cotton velour against their skin.

It is very durable fabric, tested to withstand 300+ washings, 100% eco-friendly material, super soft, breathable and flexible.

Lenzing™ EcoVero™ Viscose

We’re really excited about using Lenzing™ EcoVero™ Viscose in our range! Derived only from responsibly managed and renewable wood sources, Lenzing™ EcoVero™ production generates up to 50% lower emissions and water impact than generic viscose. It has been certified with the EU Ecolabel, meaning it has consistently high environmental standards from raw material and production to distribution and disposal.

Viscose

Viscose is a soft, cellulosic fabric that’s most commonly made from wood pulp. Due to its natural origins, this fabric can be biodegraded and composted which is one of major the reasons why we love it! Another bonus of being made from plant based fibres means there are no nasty micro-plastics that rinse off during washing. The main drawback of generic viscose is that it can often come at a cost to the environment if it does not come from a sustainable source. With this in mind we are working hard to move all of our viscose to FSC certified cloth or Lenzing™ EcoVero™.

Silk

Known for its luxurious properties and feminine drape, silk simply isn’t the most eco-friendly of fabrics. We are currently working on moving to organic silk, which is a big step in the right direction but ultimately hope to move our production to use Peace Silk.

Linen

Breathable & lightweight, linen is the perfect summer fibre. Our linen’s a bit different than most: it is hand-produced in India. Unlike a lot of other brands, this means it’s not imported from China and so its carbon footprint is automatically reduced. Woven in India, our factories can access it locally and begin to create our garments from it without unrealistic sourcing and time pressures. Better for them and better for the environment.
